Book Review

The name of my biography is Abigail Adams, Witness to a Revolution. It was written by Natalie S. Bober. The copyright date was 1995. The publication is Athenum Books for Young Readers.

I would not read another book like this one because it included way to many facts. I believe that this book would be appropiate for some one wanted to know every single detail on this person's life. So, no, I would not recommend this book to anyone.

Obstacles

I had many obstacles in my life.I've listed them below.

I often had to tend to my house wifely duties while running the whole farm while John was away. My bones ache to think of the work. Ugh!

Not being able to just skip down the road when ever I needed groceries was quite a pain. I often had to make it myself because of the boycott, and believe me when I say that skipping down the road is a lot easier.

While being worried about John Adams, I also had to worry about my children. When he was gone they were at the age when most young get sick and die. Sometimes I wish I lived in this time period when my children were being born. Even if I had to deal with all this shiny, complicated stuff I would have dearly loved to have healthy children. Most parents are not aware of how fortunate they are to have all their children in tact. But I know how it feels to lose a child, as I lost one myself. But I did not cry until 20 years later. Where I was comforting my daughter in the lost of one of her children.

I, Abigail Adams have just discovered a miracle! This Miracle box can capture pictures and music in something called a video and show it again and again! I know it's amazing but it's all true. I spent hours watching the video to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me.What are you laughing at? You don't believe me? Fine, I'll prove it to you. Lights, camera, action!Now............how do you turn this video on again? Do I press this button that's shaped like a triangle or the button that's shaped like a square? hm mm.........maybe this one.

Interesting Things About Me

I, Abigail Adams,am one of many women who contributed to history. The others are probably more interesting than I am, but I have my interesting points too!

As a child I was often ill and often could not play.

I felt an unusual hunger to learn.

I loved to read and write.

I had many friends in Boston, whom I loved.

John Adams gave me a locket before he sailed away on some business

Cotton Tufts, Richard Cranch, John Adams, Mary and Betsy (my sisters) were my best friends. We formed a strong bond that did not break until death.

My birthday was changed by eleven days.

My Effect

If I had not encouraged John Adams to be a part of politics, you all would not be where you are today. I know you're in awe, but please, save the applause for the end. If John Adams had just married some other no good wife and not me, he probably wouldn't be the great president he was to his country. Once John told me," I never wanted any ones advise and wisdom more than yours." He said this after his election in the white house in 1797.

I was also a very important role model to the daughters of Liberty. After the British taxed every thing, us patriots decided to go on a boycott. We had to make our own clothes and herbal teas. I found many varieties of teas in plants and I often helped others, including my neighbors and friends. Just like my mother.

When trouble entered my friend's lives they always found comfort in John and me. Often, our guest rooms were filled and a cheery bunch of lawyers and such joined us for our evening meal.

I had always believed in women's rights and fair treatment for all. In my "remember the ladies" letter to John, I told him that I believed that women should fight for liberty too.

Independent, intelligent, courageous and brave

Curious, confident, and reserved everyday

That's the way I could pay

For my freedom and my say

From the British taxes and evil oppression

I kept my spirits up to keep out depression

With John Adams at my side I moved bravely on

And that is why I am able to write my poem

But I wished I'd smiled in that picture as it seems smiling is fashionable in this time and era but oh well it can't be helped.

Adjectives About Yours Truly

Once in November, John and I had our portraits painted in pastels by a local artist named Benjamin Blythe. In that picture many people say I look reserved,thoughtful, poised and confident. In John's picture many people say he has a youthful appearance. however they did not say that about me and I was only twenty-two! I take this as a huge offense, but I forgive them.

Many people describe me as independent and responsible since I can take care of myself and do not rely on my husband like other lazy wives. Often when John was gone I would take care of the whole farm and our children as well as attending to my own housewifely affairs.

Many people also describe me as intelligent and curious because I was able to teach myself even though i was prohibited from attending school. I was also considered intelligent because I was deeply interested in politics and was able to keep up with the revolution as it unraveled.
